St. Mary’s G Patrick Mills is expected to play next weekend after missing the last nine games with two broken bones in his right hand.
The return of Mills makes St. Mary’s (24-5, 10-4) a bubble team that will likely earn a NCAA bid with a strong showing in the WCC tournament.
Mills, who is right-handed, is expected to play with tape on his hand to protect the injury. He has been doing extensive conditioning work to stay in shape, but don’t expect his shot to be overly effective.
The NCAA selection committee takes injuries into consideration, and will certainly notice the Gaels 18-2 record with Mills in the lineup.
Gonzaga blasted through the WCC regular season, winning both meetings against St. Mary’s and finishing 14-0 in the conference. I look forward to a possible Gonzaga-St. Mary’s matchup in the WCC championship game.
