Sam Young scored 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead No. 3 Pitt to a 70-60 win over No. 1 UConn Saturday in Pittsburgh.

The much-anticipated matchup between Hasheem Thabeet and DeJuan Blair ended up being a wash.  Thabeet finished with 14 points, 13 rebounds, and five blocks, but went scoreless in the second half.  Blair had a quiet game, finishing with eight point and eight boards while saddled with foul trouble.

Thabeet looked winded in the second half and struggled to get back on defense.

Pitt bolted to a quick lead and controlled the game until A.J. Price scored eight straight points to bring UConn back.  Price finished with 19 points but shot just 5-15.

Young looked to have a huge advantage going into the game, and proved to be a matchup nightmare for the Huskies.  His quickness and range made him a difficult guard.

The atmosphere in Pittsburgh was absolutely electric.  Bill Raftery further enhanced my viewing experience with his usually quips.  He commented on DeJuan Blairs large, powerful ass after its screen freed up Levence Fields in first half.

Pitt (28-3, 15-3) likely secured a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament with its second win over UConn this season.  UConn (27-3, 15-3) can still share the Big East title with Pitt and Louisville if the Cardinals lose tonight against West Virginia.

This game proved Pitt is clearly the best team in the country.  In addition to Blair, Fields, and Young, the Panthers have a solid supporting cast.
