Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim strongly encouraged sophomore guard Jonny Flynn to evaluate his game by declaring for the NBA draft.
Flynn made it official Friday, announcing he will declare for the draft but not hire an agent.
He is projected to be a mid-first round pick, but has said repeatedly he would like to return to school.
Teammates Eric Devendorf and Paul Harris also announced they have declared for the draft.
Oh boy.
Devendorf thinks highly of his game, but he is not an NBA player now and may never be. He has an NBA swagger, but lacks skills needed for him to make a roster.
He needs to improve his shooting consistency and maybe consider at least pretending to play defense.
I love watching him play, so I hope he returns to school and doesn’t end up playing in Belgium.
Harris is a terrific athlete, but is only about 6’4″. He needs to work on his jumper extensively, and has been fairly inconsistent throughout his career at Syracuse.
I expect all three players to be in uniform next season for the Orange.
Stay tuned.
