Rejuvenated Howard leads Mavs over Spurs

Not much has gone right for Josh Howard during the last few months. Let’s be honest here – he hasn’t made things easy for himself.

First came his comments regarding his fondness for marijuana, which came during the 2008 playoffs. Three months later, while in Winston Salem coaching at his youth basketball clinic, he was arrested for drag racing.

Then came these unforgettable comments regarding the National Anthem and Barack Obama prior to Allen Iverson’s celebrity football game in September:

All that happened before the season even began.

Howard appeared in just 52 games for the Mavs during the regular season, and showed little desire to do anything besides shoot. His name surfaced in trade rumors throughout the season, and it wasn’t clear if he would be ready for the playoffs.

All the garbage will be forgotten if Dallas keeps winning, and Howard is doing his best to make sure that happens.

Howard scored 28 points to lead the Mavs to a 99-90 win over the Spurs and a 3-1 series lead. If he continues to play at a high level, Dallas will not be an easy team to beat.

Stay tuned.
