Hedo Turkoglu intends to decline his player option and become a free agent, an Orlando Sentinel report said Monday.
Turkoglu’s agent Lon Babby told the Sentinel, “It would make sense for him to opt out. I can’t imagine a scenario in which he would not.”
The Magic would almost certainly go over the luxury tax if it chose to re-sign the 30 year-old forward. Having already invested huge money in Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson, and Rashard Lewis, the club probably wouldn’t want to shell out big bucks to keep Hedo.
Babby claims his client will draw “robust” interest from other NBA teams. Although he is certainly a nice complimentary player, Turkoglu isn’t worth more than 7 million per year at the most.
