Struggling Sooners unsure when Blake Griffin will return

Kansas took advantage of Blake Griffin’s absence last night in Norman, as Cole Aldrich dominated the paint to lead the Jayhawks to a 87-78 victory.

A dazed Griffin watched from the sideline as the Sooners rallied from a huge second-half deficit before falling short.

There is no official word from Oklahoma when Griffin will return, but coach Jeff Capel didn’t sound overly optimistic that it will be soon. It seems unlikely that he will be in the lineup Saturday against an awful Texas Tech squad, but the Sooners need his presence next Wednesday when they battle Missouri in Columbia.

Willie Warren scored 23 points against the Jayhawks and will continue to be the go-to scorer until Griffin returns. Juan Pattillo provides athleticism and rebounding on the inside, but he is somewhat raw and undersized.

Providing Griffin is 100 percent when the NCAA tournament starts, I still consider Oklahoma to be the most well-rounded team in college basketball. The Sooners are 25-3 overall and 11-2 in the Big 12.
